In preparing to relocate, people often decide to get rid of furniture they no longer want or that isn’t suited for the new home. They may choose to give furniture or other items to friends/family, sell them, or in many cases are just looking to donate them. Here are some of our suggestions if you are looking to donate your furniture:
Furniture Bank, Matthew House Ottawa, and Helping With Furniture will pick up items and give them directly to families in need. They may charge a pick-up fee.
Thrift shops such as Habitat for Humanity Restore, Salvation Army, and St. Vincent De Paul will pick-up and resell furniture to raise money for charity.
If these organizations can not pick-up at a time that suits your schedule, you can have us drop off the items on moving day.

In preparing for an upcoming move, people often need to declutter and get rid of “junk” they have accumulated over the years. If these items are not worthy of being donated, they may end up in the trash.
If you end up with more trash than can reasonably be put at the curb on garbage day, you might decide to hire a junk removal company such as Capital Junk, Just Junk, A Man and His Truck, or 1-800 Got Junk.
While we do not move trash on our moving trucks, we can sometimes assist with disposal of furniture. This is only ever cost effective if done as part of a move. Unwanted furniture would just be left on the truck until the end of the move and then we would transport it to the local landfill after the move is completed. In figuring the cost for this, we have to consider the cost for sending the truck and crew to the landfill as well as dump fees. This would depend on the size of the crew and the amount of furniture to be disposed of and would need to be decided on a case-by-case basis.
